The Art of Grounding

Introduction to Grounding..

If you want to know the What, Why and How to grounding then this is the blog for you.

There are so many 'spiritual' terms being thrown around like everyone knows what these all mean but what if you do not know? After a conversation with a sweet friend of mine we both realised that because this is our world we assume everyone knows what grounding is. Well it is safe to say that many people do not!

Firstly there are many names given to earth such as Mother Earth, Gaia, Pacha-Mama and Shakti (I am sure there are many many more) but these are just some. I usually switch between what resonates in the moment and I tend to go back to Shakti the most, as that aligns with my beliefs. Personally I believe in the cosmic union of Masculine and Feminine. Earth being the feminine which is why She is always referred to as Mother.

What is Grounding?

Let the Earth hold you and your spirit will soar.

Grounding is when we connect to the earth, the surface of the earth. The plants and soil, we can do this simply by connecting to the earth with the bare soles of our feet. So the science is simple, we as human beings can heal through this simple connection. Long, long ago we stood barefoot and that helped transmissions to flow from the earth. Our feet are also our direct connection to our organs (see reflexology for more on this) the magnetic ions of the earth helped to heal our organs directly with this connection and it is said that 15min of grounding daily can really heal ailments and dis-ease in the body.

However not only this, you will find a sense of protection and support with this practice. Directly connecting to your Muladara (root)chakra where our sense of safety and security is held. The earth assists in offering this feeling of connection, safety and protection.

Why and the benefits.

Here are some of the many benefits of grounding:-

  • Enhances mood
  • Reduces stress level
  • Pain relief
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves sleep
  • Heart health

Spiritually, many people in the spiritual community will use visualisation grounding practices to set up protection when they offer and energetic exchange such as Reiki but also when practicing meditation.

Okay, so how?

Well the easiest way is to simply plant your bare feet in the earth wether that is in your garden or in your local park. However, if you do not have access to a garden or park then there are grounding mats that you can purchase. Grounding mats omit a frequency similar to the resonance of the earth that offers the same benefits, albeit not as much fun as tickling your feet on the grass or through the flowers. Of course it does not always need to be on grass, you can walk bare foot on the sand, through the waves of the sea..be explorative and find the method that suits you and your needs.

Most of all...Enjoy connecting with the Earth, Gaia, Shakti and offer her gratitude in exchange for holding you up every day of your life. We take the earth for granted without realising how much we rely on Her.

I hope you found this blog helpful, wether you are a seasoned grounder or not!

Much love Soma x
