The Kundalini Experience

Here is my take on the Kundalini but before I go into it here is a little about my journey and who I am and where my knowledge comes from.

As a UK born Indian, Scottish Sikh woman I am familiar with Hinduism, learned through years of listening to my grandmother and watching Mahabharat as I grew up as well as listening to the teachings in the Bhagavad Gita.

Let's be honest.

To be honest I was not fully aware of what the Kundalini is and I was never really interested, during my personal growth journey I came across it here and there. I would see workshops, yoga and sessions that promised to activate your Kundalini but it never called to me. It felt like a another badly marketed spiritual product being capitalised, so I stayed in my own personal healing journHowever, once embarking on my own Tantric journey only a few years ago I was led down the rabbit hole that is the ‘Kundalini’. Tantra and Kundalini co-exist( and I am not an expert)or you could say Kundalini is derived from Tantra as almost everything is! That’s another story though.

So, Kundalini is the most primal energy of the earth, the energy is Shakti, the Great Mother, Gaia or whatever you choose to call her. The Kundalini is represented by the snake. The snake is coiled and dormant at the root of our spine in our Muladara chakra, sleeping until awoken and when it does it moves up your spine through each chakra until it reaches the Saharasraha. It does not always automatically travel up your spine to the crown, very often it can get stuck in one of your chakras, this is dependant on your own personal journey of inner healing. Your inner healing will mean addressing your shadows and for me it got stuck in the heart but very swiftly moved to my Saharasraha.

"A serpent coiled, asleep it lies,
At base of spine, where power hides.
Awakened slow, with gentle fire,
A rising force, a pure desire."

never asked for the Kundalini to awaken in me and I never set this intention. I was vaguely aware of what the Kundalini was in my body and only had some experiences, that peaked my interest slightly but even then I did not think or know that it was my Kundalini, I just thought it was another spiritual experience. I became aware of my Kundalini about 3 years ago and it activated or awakened ( I never know the commercial terminology) fully only a year ago.

Personally, I object to group workshops on awakening or activating your Kundalini. I do agree with the correct preparation that can be taught in various forms whether that is with a practitioner or another suitable method. That is my take, but use your own discernment as it not for me to tell you what to believe or who to follow.

Back to my journey! So…I became curious and I tried to learn about it as much as I could from Hindu scriptures and listening to teachers, Guru’s who know the Bhagavad Gita way more than I ever could. So much of this knowledge comes from them. (By the way they speak Hindi in these lessons so I will do my best to translate this wisdom.)

Firstly and most importantly, the Kundalini should not be activated and certainly is not an energy that you consciously call in, I guess you could set the intention but I do not know how much that actually works. We all have the energy of Kundalini in our base chakra and I from what I learned ‘The Kundalini energy chooses you’ not the other way around.

In actual fact if you choose to go down the road of activating your Kundalini with an untrained professional or Guru, it can be dangerous. In fact the Guru on the podcast felt very strongly about this part, he pretty much said ‘Use a trained Guru or do not embark on this journey at all’.

My first piece of advice is, if you have an innate desire to go on this journey is that you must first embark on a deep intense journey of self -healing and shadow work.

By doing this the Kundalini has a clear pathway to your saharasraha  and is activated painlessly. However it is known to have been activated in people who have not done the inner work and it brings with it a lot of emotional, physical and mental pain. People lives can be thrown upside down and out of balance-this is the dark side of Kundalini that we do not hear about on mainstream spirituality.

If we activate or awaken it without preparation it is not pretty.

Divine Union

In essence if practiced correctly when your Kundalini rises, its core purpose is to be in union with the Divine and you are the vessel for which this takes place. You and the Divine are unified in the most beautiful experience that you could ever have.

The light Kundalini opens up your channel to the Divine and your saharasraha is opened and awake, your intuition increases and you can channel your sexual energy in a way to heal your own body(well this is how it feels for me) you will shed old limiting beliefs and parts of you that are not aligned with your higher self.

I have a lot more knowledge and wisdom on the Kundalini learned from my own reading and research, but I wanted to convey this message if you are embarking on a Kundalini Journey.

My advice is to do your own research and be guided by your intuition and do the preparation.

Personally, I did not go to a workshop, session or an activation to bring about my awakening, it chose me when it felt I was ready.

Feel free to reach out if you want me to speak about my Kundalini knowledge at any of your sacred spaces.

Love S x
